Sedona in Two Days: From Vortex Hikes to Vegan Bites

Posted on April 4, 2025April 4, 2025

I’m heading to Sedona, Arizona in the middle of August because my nephew recently moved to Prescott Valley nearby. Despite the intense heat, I’m excited to explore Sedona’s natural beauty, learn about its Native American heritage, and try out some of the best vegan dining spots in the area.

This trip means a lot to me because it’s a chance to spend time with family and immerse myself in the unique atmosphere of Sedona. I’m eager to reconnect with my roots and experience everything this desert town has to offer firsthand.

Come along with me as I discover Sedona’s stunning landscapes and vibrant local culture. I’m looking forward to sharing my journey with you, from hiking trails to exploring hidden gems and enjoying the tranquility and spirit of this remarkable place.

Day 1: Exploring Sedona’s Natural and Spiritual Wonders

Morning: Meditation and Energy Vortex Hike

7:00 AM – Cathedral Rock: I plan to start the day early to avoid the heat. Cathedral Rock is 1.2 miles round trip and one of Sedona’s most famous energy vortex sites. This hike offers stunning views and a serene atmosphere perfect for meditation. Water and good hiking shoes are required. Make sure to give yourself time to sit and meditate at the top.

Late Morning: Cool Off at Slide Rock State Park

10:00 AM – Slide Rock State Park: After your hike, head to Oak Creek Canyon to visit Slide Rock State Park. There is a natural water slide in the creek which will be perfect for cooling off. Weekends will be busy but during the week less of a crowd, also by going early you can avoid the crowds. Make sure to bring your swimsuit, and water shoes and pack a picnic

Afternoon Activities

Option 1: Red Rock Crossing/Crescent Moon Ranch

1:30 PM – Red Rock Crossing/Crescent Moon Ranch: This is one of the most photographed sites in Arizona, known for its stunning views of Cathedral Rock reflected in the water. Chill by the creek, have a picnic, or do some light hiking. Make sure to bring a blanket and some snacks.

Option 2: Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park

1:30 PM – Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park: This serene 14-acre park features a large Buddhist stupa, meditation areas, and walking trails. It’s a peaceful spot for meditation and reflection.

Option 3: Sedona Crystal Vortex

1:30 PM – Sedona Crystal Vortex, 300 N State Rte 89A, Sedona, AZ 86336: This metaphysical store has a lot of crystals, jewelry, and spiritual tools. If you time it right you can also get a mini aura reading or healing session.

Evening: Sunset Views and Dinner

5:30 PM – Airport Mesa Vortex: Breathtaking sunset view and another powerful energy vortex spot, it’s a perfect spot for reflection and meditation. It’s a popular spot to see the sunset so make sure to get there early

Dinner: Fine Vegan Dining

7:00 PM – Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill: This is an upscale restaurant with stunning views of the Red Rocks and while it’s not exclusively vegan I heard that it does offer really good vegan options. You can request the chef’s vegan specialties.

Day 2: Deepening Spiritual Connection and Exploring Surroundings

Morning: Spiritual Hike and Meditation

7:00 AM – Boynton Canyon Trail: Another vortex hike known for its spiritual energy and beautiful scenery. It’s a longer hike of approximately 6 miles round trip and has perfect spots for meditation like the Boynton Spire for a powerful meditation experience..

Late Morning: Visit to a Crystal Shop or Art Village

11:00 AM – Crystal Magic: This is a well-known shop to find crystals, spiritual books, and other metaphysical tools. You can get a crystal reading here if you’re into that sort of thing.

Alternative: Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village

11:00 AM – Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village: If you would rather skip the crystals you can get a bit of art and culture at this arts and crafts village where you’ll find art galleries and boutiques. Make sure to visit Mountain Trails Gallery and Honshin Fine Art.

Lunch: Vegan Cafe

12:30 PM – Local Juicery is a vegan-friendly café. They have cold-pressed juices, smoothie bowls, and raw food dishes. They say the Buddha Bowl and the Warrior Smoothie are a must-try.

Afternoon: Native American Sites and Workshops

1:30 PM – Montezuma Castle National Monument: On your way to or from Sedona, visit ancient cliff dwellings. It’s an outdoor activity but there are shaded areas and it’s not a strenuous hike. It’s 45 minutes south of Sedona, near Camp Verde.

Late Afternoon: Wellness Drop-In

4:00 PM – Affordable Wellness Treatments:
Sedona Healing Arts: Offers a variety of treatments including massages, often at reasonable rates.
Sedona’s New Day Spa: Check for specials or discounted treatments.

Dinner: Cozy Vegan Fare

6:30 PM – Cafe Paleo: Wrapping up the 2-day trip by eating healthy, plant-based dishes. I heard the vegan BBQ jackfruit tacos and the sweet potato Buddha bowls are local favorites.

Picazzo’s Healthy Italian Kitchen has a variety of vegan options including pizzas and salads.
The Secret Garden Café: Located in Tlaquepaque, also has several vegan-friendly options.

So there you have it! This is my itinerary. I’ll have a day on either side of the trip to hang with my nephew and my grand niece. I am so looking forward to visiting Sedona. I already ordered my water shoes and my camel back from Amazon so I am prepared and I have good hiking shoes too!

Experience Sedona through my itinerary above and let me know what you think. Whether you’re planning your own trip or have been there before let me know what you think about what I plan to do and see. Stay tuned for more updates and tips on my vegan travel and spiritual adventures in Sedona.
